(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
