(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
