The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
