In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
