In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
