The dwellers of Al-Aiyka [near Madyan (Midian)] belied the Messengers. 176 When Shu'aib said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 177 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 178 So fear Allah and obey me. 179 And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ Give full measure, and be not of those who cause others to lose. 181 and weigh with the straight balance, 182 And do not wrong men of their things, and do not act corruptly in the earth, making mischief. 183 Fear Him who created you and those who have gone before you." 184 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 185 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us, and indeed we think thou art a liar! 186 Drop down on us lumps from heaven, if you are one of the truthful' 187 He said, "My Lord has full knowledge of all your actions." 188 In response they denied him – therefore the punishment of the day of the tent* seized them; that was indeed a punishment of a Great Day. (The clouds formed a tent and rained fire upon them). 189 Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers. 190 And most surely your Lord is Mighty, the Merciful. 191
