And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 So they said, “What! Shall we follow a man from among us? If we do, we are indeed astray, and insane!” 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 (We told Our Messenger): “Tomorrow they shall know who is the insolent liar. 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Verily, We sent against them a single Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.), and they became like the dry stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 The folk of Lot rejected warnings. 33 We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- 34 As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. 36 And certainly they endeavored to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning. 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 We have made it easy indeed to learn lessons from the Quran.
