[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
