The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
