Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
