The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
