۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
