The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they differ? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
