The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And carpets raised. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
