He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
