The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
