A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
