The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
