The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
