The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
