He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
