Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
