The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ruin is for the defrauders. (Those who measure less.) 1 those who demand a full measure from others 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 then they shall enter the Fire of Hell, 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!" 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
