In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
