Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
