The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 scorching the flesh; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
