The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
