The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 And when the mountains shall made to pass away; 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 when the savage beasts shall be brought together, 5 When the oceans boil over with a swell; 6 And when souls are united, 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 and by the night as it recedes, 17 and the first breath of morning. 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 Your companion (Muhammad) does not suffer from any mental illness 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 So where are you going? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
