The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
