Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
