When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 He said: Surely these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me, 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 Indeed, it is on a way which still exists. 76 Surely! Therein is indeed a sign for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 On them, too, We took vengeance, and they are both on a clear roadway. 79
