The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
