The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
