He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
