The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
