Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
