Those who believe ask why no chapter [about fighting] has been sent down. Yet when a decisive chapter that mentions fighting is sent down, you can see the sick of heart looking at you [Prophet] as if they were under the shadow of death. Therefore, woe to them! 20 obedience, and words honourable. Then, when the matter is resolved, if they were true to God, it would be better for them. 21 Then if you turn away, you are likely to spread corruption on the earth and sever your ties of kinship. 22 Such are they whom Allah has cursed, so that He has made them deaf and blinded their sight. 23 Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Nay, on the hearts there are locks. 24 Lo! those who turn back after the guidance hath been manifested unto them, Satan hath seduced them, and He giveth them the rein. 25 This, because they said to those who hate what Allah has revealed, "We will obey you in part of (this) matter"; but Allah knows their (inner) secrets. 26 How terrible it will be for them when the angels take away their souls by striking their faces and their backs. 27 That is because they follow what angers Allah and hate His pleasure, therefore He has annulled their deeds. 28
