A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a good many of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
