The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a return for the insolent, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
