A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
