The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
