The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
