The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the great news - 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
