The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
