The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
