He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
Almighty God's Truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
