The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
