The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
