He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
