Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
